José Mourinho’s men will play their third match of the pre-season tonight at Riazor as Real Madrid take part in the 81st edition of the prestigious Teresa Herrera Trophy.
The Spanish giants will face Deportivo de La Coruña in another important preparation match ahead of the start of the new campaign. Kick-off is scheduled for 9:00 PM, with the encounter available live on Realmadrid TV, RM Play and La 1.
Real Madrid’s objective is clear: win the Teresa Herrera Trophy for the tenth time in the club’s history. Los Blancos have already lifted the trophy on nine occasions, triumphing in 1949, 1953, 1966, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1994 and 2013. Their most recent participation came in 2013, when they once again emerged victorious.
Tonight’s fixture will be Real Madrid’s third match of the 2026/27 pre-season, and Mourinho’s side remain unbeaten so far. Their preparations began with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Fiorentina. Real Madrid then travelled to Budapest, where they secured their first victory of the summer with a 2-1 win over Ferencváros.
The performances in these opening matches have allowed Mourinho to continue assessing his squad, testing tactical ideas and giving minutes to both established first-team players and younger talents.
After facing Deportivo, Real Madrid will play their final pre-season friendly on Sunday against Schalke 04. That match will represent the last opportunity for Mourinho to fine-tune his team before the start of competitive action.
The new La Liga season will begin for the Madridistas on Saturday, August 22, with an away fixture against Espanyol. With the opening league match approaching, every pre-season encounter is becoming increasingly important in terms of fitness, tactical preparation and competition for places in the starting eleven.
For tonight’s game at Riazor, Mourinho has called up almost the same group of players who travelled to Budapest and defeated Ferencváros last Saturday. The only absence compared to that squad is Javi Navarro.
Deportivo, meanwhile, should provide another demanding test. The Galician club earned promotion to Spain’s top flight last season and have enjoyed an impressive pre-season campaign.

They have played six friendly matches this summer without suffering a single defeat. Deportivo have recorded three victories, beating Compostela, Lugo and Genoa, while drawing their other three matches against Oviedo, St. Pauli and Fiorentina.
Their unbeaten record underlines the challenge awaiting Real Madrid at Riazor. Playing in front of their own supporters and competing for a historic trophy will provide Deportivo with additional motivation.
For Mourinho and his players, however, the Teresa Herrera Trophy offers another opportunity to continue building momentum before the beginning of La Liga. Real Madrid will be aiming not only to maintain their unbeaten pre-season record, but also to add a tenth Teresa Herrera title to the club’s remarkable collection of honours.
