Real Madrid: the full schedule for a packed October

Five matches, three away trips, and a Clasico to finish the month. Real Madrid are set for an intense October.

October promises to be a demanding month for Real Madrid. After the international break, José Mourinho’s side will play five matches in just fifteen days, including two Champions League fixtures and, above all, the first Clasico of the season against Barcelona.

Real Madrid: the full schedule for a packed October

The month will begin on October 10, when Real Madrid welcome Villarreal to the Santiago Bernabéu in La Liga. It will be Madrid’s first game after the international break and an important opportunity to restart strongly before a difficult run of fixtures.

Only four days later, Mourinho’s players will travel to Italy to face AS Roma on October 14. The match will be Real Madrid’s second fixture in the Champions League league phase. Playing away in Rome will provide a very different challenge, especially with such little recovery time after the Villarreal game.

Real Madrid will then return to domestic action on October 18 with another home match, this time against Sevilla. With the schedule becoming increasingly congested, Mourinho may have to manage his squad carefully and rotate some of his players in order to keep the team fresh for the matches that follow.

There will be almost no time to recover. On October 21, RB Leipzig will visit the Santiago Bernabéu for another major Champions League night. It will be Real Madrid’s second European fixture in the space of only one week and their fourth match in eleven days.

But the biggest game of the month will come at the very end.

On October 25, Real Madrid will travel to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season. As always, the rivalry between the two Spanish giants will attract enormous attention, but the timing of the match makes it even more significant. Madrid will arrive in Barcelona after an extremely demanding sequence of matches in both La Liga and the Champions League.

For Mourinho, October will therefore represent an important test of his squad’s depth, physical condition and ability to compete every few days. With Villarreal, Roma, Sevilla, Leipzig and Barcelona all waiting within just over two weeks, Real Madrid will have very little margin for error.

The Clasico will provide the perfect conclusion to a month that could play an important role in shaping Madrid’s season.
