Real Madrid will continue their preparations for the 2026/27 season by taking part in the 81st edition of the prestigious Teresa Herrera Trophy. José Mourinho’s side will face Deportivo de La Coruña at the Riazor Stadium on Wednesday, August 12, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
The fixture represents another important test for Real Madrid during the final stages of their pre-season campaign. With the start of the new competitive season approaching, Mourinho will have another opportunity to assess the condition of his players, test different tactical combinations and give minutes to both established stars and members of the squad fighting for a place in the starting eleven.

The Teresa Herrera Trophy is one of the most historic summer tournaments in Spanish football. Traditionally hosted in A Coruña, the competition has welcomed some of the biggest clubs in Europe and South America over the decades. Real Madrid have a particularly strong history in the tournament and will return to Riazor hoping to add another trophy to their collection.
The last time Real Madrid participated in the Teresa Herrera Trophy was in 2013. On that occasion, the Spanish giants successfully lifted the trophy, continuing a long tradition of success in the competition.
Real Madrid have won the Teresa Herrera Trophy nine times in total. Their victories came in 1949, 1953, 1966, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1994 and 2013. A victory against Deportivo this year would therefore give the club its tenth title in the competition and further strengthen its impressive record.
The match will also provide a special atmosphere for both teams. Deportivo will have the advantage of playing in front of their supporters at Riazor, while Real Madrid are expected to attract significant attention wherever they travel. Matches between the two clubs have produced many memorable moments throughout Spanish football history, adding extra interest to what is officially a pre-season encounter.
For Mourinho, the fixture comes at an important stage of the team’s preparation. Real Madrid have been gradually increasing the intensity of their training sessions and friendly matches as they work towards reaching peak condition for the beginning of La Liga.

The Portuguese coach is expected to continue experimenting with his squad, while several players could be given valuable playing time before the competitive campaign begins. New signings and younger players will also be hoping to impress the coaching staff and strengthen their position within the team.
Beyond the sporting preparation, the Teresa Herrera Trophy carries significant historical value. Real Madrid’s nine previous triumphs underline the club’s close relationship with the tournament, and the return to Riazor after thirteen years adds another layer of significance to the occasion.
Real Madrid and Deportivo will meet on August 12 at 9:00 p.m. at the Riazor Stadium, with Los Blancos aiming to continue their pre-season progress while competing for what could become their tenth Teresa Herrera Trophy.
