Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Racing Santander wonderkid Sergio Martinez. The Spanish giants appear to have won a four-club battle for the highly rated 19-year-old midfielder.
Real Madrid may finally be about to secure the additional midfield reinforcement they have been looking for. Currently playing for Racing Santander, Sergio Martinez has quickly become one of the most exciting young players in Spanish football.

The 19-year-old made an immediate impact at the start of the new LaLiga season, finding the back of the net against Villarreal on the opening matchday. His performances have attracted attention from several of Spain’s biggest clubs, all eager to secure one of the country’s most promising midfield prospects.
According to information reported by AS, Real Madrid are now expected to win the race for his signature. Martinez has reportedly decided that the Santiago Bernabéu club is the best destination for the next stage of his career, despite strong interest from FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Villarreal.
Although Real Madrid’s pursuit may appear to have accelerated recently, the club’s interest is far from new. The Madrid hierarchy have reportedly been monitoring Martinez since last season, when he began making an impression at professional level in the Spanish second division.
Sergio Martinez Seen as a Player for the Future
Despite already featuring regularly with Racing Santander’s senior team, Martinez is not expected to immediately join Real Madrid’s first-team squad.

According to AS, the Spain Under-19 international is initially set to play for Real Madrid Castilla, where the club believes he will have the ideal environment to continue his development.
The decision makes sense given the intense competition for places in Real Madrid’s senior midfield. Rather than putting unnecessary pressure on the youngster, Madrid want him to adapt gradually to the club, gain regular playing time with Castilla and potentially earn opportunities with the first team depending on his performances.
Real Madrid are expected to pay approximately €3 million, corresponding to the value of Martinez’s release clause, to complete the transfer.
The midfielder could make his farewell appearance for Racing this weekend when the Cantabrian side face Getafe on Sunday. It promises to be an emotional occasion for both the player and the club’s supporters.
Racing Santander are themselves enjoying a special period after returning to LaLiga following a 14-year absence from Spain’s top division.
Their opening game of the season almost produced a memorable victory. Racing took a stunning 2-0 lead against Villarreal during the first half before eventually being pegged back, with the contest ending in a draw.
Despite the disappointment of letting the advantage slip, there were plenty of positives for the supporters, particularly the performance of Sergio Martinez.
The young midfielder marked the occasion by scoring, further demonstrating why some of Spain’s biggest clubs have been following his progress so closely.
Now, everything points toward Madrid. If the final details are completed as expected, Sergio Martinez will become another major prospect recruited by Real Madrid with the future firmly in mind.
