Real Madrid’s available players completed the second training day of the fourth week of pre-season at Ciudad Real Madrid. José Mourinho’s squad continues to intensify its preparations ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with the coaching staff focusing on physical conditioning, ball control and tactical work.
The session began inside the gym, where the players carried out a series of strength, mobility and physical activation exercises. This opening phase was designed to prepare their bodies for the more demanding work that followed on the training pitch. With the new season approaching, Mourinho and his staff are carefully managing the workload to ensure that the squad gradually reaches its best physical condition.
After completing their gym programme, the players moved outside and were joined by a group of young footballers from the club’s academy. The first part of the on-field session consisted of activation drills intended to improve movement, coordination and reaction speed.
The squad then worked on possession and ball circulation exercises. These drills required the players to move the ball quickly, create passing options and maintain control under pressure. The coaching staff paid particular attention to the speed of play, positional discipline and the players’ ability to find space between the lines.
Mourinho also organised a number of combined attacking exercises involving passing and finishing. The footballers completed different passing sequences before attempting to score in small goals. This work allowed the team to practise movement in the final third, accuracy in front of goal and coordination between midfielders and attacking players.
The training session concluded with several small-sided matches played in reduced spaces. These games were conducted at a high intensity and encouraged quick decision-making, aggressive pressing and rapid transitions between attack and defence. With less space and time available, the players were forced to circulate the ball quickly and react immediately whenever possession changed hands.
Several members of the squad continued to follow individual programmes. Dean Huijsen trained separately, completing work both inside the facilities and individually on the pitch. Franco Mastantuono remained in the gym, where he carried out a specific training routine adapted to his condition.
Meanwhile, Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Éder Militão and Rodrygo continued their respective recovery processes. The medical and coaching teams are closely monitoring their progress as they work toward returning to full fitness.
