OFFICIAL: Sergio Martinez becomes a Real Madrid player.

After numerous rumors in recent days, Sergio Martinez has officially joined Real Madrid from Real Racing Club.

Although José Mourinho had announced that Real Madrid’s squad was complete, another player has now arrived at the Spanish capital club. Indeed, Real Racing Club has just officially announced, in a statement, the departure of Sergio Martinez to Los Blancos.

It is a relatively modest signing worth just €5 million, and for the time being, the young player is expected to initially join Real Madrid Castilla before hoping to earn a place in the first-team squad. The young Spaniard has signed a four-year contract with Real Madrid, keeping him at the club until 2030.

Real Racing Club’s official statement

“Racing Santander and Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergio Martínez. The Madrid-based club has committed to paying, in a single installment, the full amount stipulated in the release clause of the contract that linked the player to Real Racing Club.

As a result, the Laredo-born player leaves Racing’s squad. From Racing Santander, the club Sergio joined at the age of 10 and where he progressed through every level, from the Under-12 B team all the way to the first team — for whom he made 15 appearances — we wish the player every success he deserves in his future professional and personal endeavors.

Sergio Martinez was wanted by several clubs

If Sergio Martinez has signed for Real Madrid, it is very much because it was his own choice. The 19-year-old had attracted interest from several major clubs.

As early as last winter, FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Villarreal, as well as Real Madrid themselves, had attempted to sign the highly rated Real Racing Club prospect. However, Martinez decided to finish the season with his boyhood club, preferring to continue his development before making a final decision regarding his future.

This summer, the same clubs renewed their interest, with several Premier League and Saudi Arabian teams also joining the race.

After just over a week of consideration — with Real Madrid entering the race for his signature on August 19 — Sergio Martinez ultimately decided to join Los Blancos and begin a new chapter of his career in the Spanish capital.
