Mastantuono explains why he left Real Madrid this summer.

Franco Mastantuono was officially presented as a new Fiorentina player after joining the Italian club on a season-long loan from Real Madrid. During his first press conference in Florence, the Argentine midfielder explained why he chose Fiorentina, reflected on his experience in Spain and outlined what he hopes to achieve in Serie A.

Mastantuono revealed that Fiorentina’s sporting project played a decisive role in his decision.

Mastantuono explains why he left Real Madrid this summer.

“I chose Fiorentina because they presented me with a very interesting project, one that is growing, and I also felt that joining a club like this was important for my career. I’m very happy with the decision I made. Italian football is extremely important around the world and I’ve always liked the idea of playing in this country. Now I have that opportunity, and I hope I can develop here and have a great season with Fiorentina.”

The Argentine also spoke warmly about his arrival in Florence and the reception he received from the supporters.

“When I arrived in Florence, the people welcomed me very well. The reception at the airport was beautiful. I don’t see it as a responsibility, but rather as a commitment to my teammates and to helping Fiorentina return to the top. For me, playing well is important. I’ll always be available for the team. I feel comfortable in attacking areas, but the most important thing is helping the team, so I’ll do whatever the coach asks of me.”

Mastantuono reflects on River Plate and Real Madrid

Despite his young age, Mastantuono has already represented two of world football’s biggest clubs: River Plate and Real Madrid.

“I had the opportunity and the privilege of playing for River Plate and Real Madrid, two very important teams and two huge clubs. I like pressure because football is a sport we play with a lot of passion, but it is also our job. Both of my previous experiences were unique, just like having the opportunity to play in such incredible stadiums. Those experiences will also help me in the future.”

The midfielder then explained how his departure from Real Madrid was decided.

“When I spoke with the Real Madrid directors, the conversation was cordial and friendly. I decided to leave the club. I had many options and I’m grateful to everyone who showed interest in me. But when I spoke with Fiorentina and the coach, I was very impressed by the project, so I made my decision about a week before the announcement.”

Mastantuono admitted that his first season in Madrid had been difficult, but insisted that he does not see the move to Florence as an act of revenge.

“At Madrid, we went through a complicated season for everyone. It wasn’t easy, but situations like that always help you learn and improve. There is always room to grow. Coming here is not about revenge. It is an opportunity to show the player I am, to help Fiorentina be the great club it is, and to enjoy playing football.”

Finally, Mastantuono spoke about Nico Paz, whom he will also face in Serie A.

“We haven’t spoken, but we played together with the national team. I’ve followed his career and he has made a big impact at Como. He’s a very good person and a great player, but I don’t compare myself to anyone. I’m here to help the team achieve our objectives. I hope to have a great season.”
