Official: Mastantuono Leaves Real Madrid for Fiorentina

Real Madrid’s Argentine youngster Franco Mastantuono will spend the 2026-27 season in Italy after completing a loan move to Fiorentina.

Just one year after arriving in the Spanish capital with huge expectations surrounding his talent, Mastantuono is temporarily leaving Real Madrid in search of more regular playing time. The move represents an important step in the development of one of Argentina’s most highly rated young footballers, who remains firmly part of the Spanish club’s long-term plans.

Mastantuono initially made an encouraging start to life at Real Madrid. Under former coach Xabi Alonso, the Argentine was given several opportunities and even established himself as a starter on the right side of Madrid’s attack for a period. His technical ability, creativity and willingness to take responsibility impressed supporters, while his performances suggested that he could quickly become an important member of the first team.

However, maintaining a regular place in a squad as competitive as Real Madrid’s proved difficult.

Despite showing plenty of determination whenever he was given an opportunity, Mastantuono gradually lost his position in the starting XI. As the season progressed, his playing time became increasingly limited, making it harder for the youngster to find consistency and continue his development at the desired pace.

Real Madrid therefore began considering the possibility of sending him elsewhere for a season, where he could play regularly at a high level.

José Mourinho, who took charge of the squad and worked with Mastantuono during the early stages of preseason at Valdebebas, appears to have approved the decision. After assessing the Argentine during several weeks of training, the coaching staff reportedly agreed that a temporary move would be the most beneficial solution for the player.

Real Madrid have now confirmed that Fiorentina will be his destination.

The Italian club will welcome Mastantuono for the entire 2026-27 campaign. Crucially, the agreement does not include a purchase option, underlining Real Madrid’s continued confidence in the Argentine international and their intention to bring him back to Spain once the loan spell is completed.

Mastantuono is therefore expected to return to Madrid in the summer of 2027.

Real Madrid invested heavily to sign the talented attacker from River Plate, with the total cost of the operation reportedly exceeding €60 million. The club clearly views him as a major asset for the future and does not want to lose control over his development.

For Mastantuono, Fiorentina could provide the perfect environment to gain valuable experience. Serie A remains one of Europe’s strongest and most tactically demanding leagues, and regular football in Italy could help him improve physically, tactically and mentally.

The challenge will now be to establish himself quickly in Florence and prove that he is capable of becoming a decisive player at the highest level.

Real Madrid will undoubtedly follow his progress closely throughout the season. The objective is clear: Mastantuono must return to the Santiago Bernabéu in 2027 stronger, more experienced and ready to fight for a permanent place in Madrid’s first team.
