Real Madrid new signing Yan Diomande spoke to Real Madrid Television on Tuesday, opening up about his dream move, his relationship with José Mourinho and his ambitions at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Yan Diomande is undoubtedly expected to be one of the main attractions of Real Madrid’s opening matches, although Madrid supporters will have to wait a little longer before seeing the Ivorian in action.
The young winger was not included in José Mourinho’s squad for the friendly against Deportivo. His first appearance could therefore come in Real Madrid’s final pre-season match against Schalke 04, when he may finally get the opportunity to wear the white shirt on the pitch.
Speaking to the club’s official television channel, Diomande could barely hide his excitement after completing his move to the Spanish giants.
“I’m proud and happy because this was my dream. When I was younger, I wanted to play for the biggest clubs in the world. I’m grateful to be here, very happy and proud. I want my whole family to be proud of me,” he said.
For Diomande, joining Real Madrid represents the highest possible step in his career.
“This is the biggest club in the world. Everyone wants to come here. I want to share my happiness with everyone and be part of the team’s success.”
The Ivorian also paid tribute to José Mourinho, revealing that a conversation with the Portuguese coach played an important role in convincing him to make the move.
“I want to thank the coach because we had a conversation before. I’m here thanks to him and, of course, thanks to the club. I’m very happy. I want to thank the club and the coach for believing in me.”
Diomande is also excited about sharing the dressing room with players he previously watched from afar.
“It’s always good to have great players in the dressing room because you can learn from them. I used to watch them on television and now we are in the same dressing room. It’s incredible.”
The youngster has already noticed the increased demands that come with representing Real Madrid.
“It’s different and more difficult, but that’s normal when you are at the biggest club. You have to work harder than at other clubs if you want to be the best in the world. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
Describing himself as naturally reserved, Diomande admitted he is still adapting to his new surroundings.

“I’m a little shy when it comes to speaking. I want to understand the team’s dynamics and help us achieve a lot of success together.”
When asked why he chose Real Madrid, however, his answer could not have been clearer.
“Because it’s the biggest club in the world. When Real Madrid calls you, you can’t say no. It’s as simple as that.”
Diomande ended by setting out his ambitions in Madrid: to win trophies and contribute to another successful era for the club.
“I want to achieve a lot of success here, help the team win everything. Hala Madrid.”
