“Playing for the greatest club in the history of football, as its trophies prove, is a privilege, and I am very happy,” Bernardo Silva said after completing his first training session as a Real Madrid player.
The Portuguese midfielder shared his first impressions with Realmadrid TV after taking part in his opening session at the Ciudad Real Madrid. Clearly delighted to begin this new chapter of his career, Bernardo expressed his ambition to contribute to the club’s continued success.

“It is very special, and I am extremely happy to be here. There is no need to explain what this club represents because its entire history speaks for itself. I am delighted to get started and to try to help this team continue winning, because that is what Real Madrid knows how to do: win, win and win. I am here to help and to continue the successful path of this spectacular club.”
Speaking about his first training session, Bernardo admitted that the intensity was immediately noticeable.
“I am tired. The first training session was intense, but I am very happy to meet all these people and my new teammates. I already know some of them quite well because I have played against them many times. However, I am delighted to finally be on the same side and to begin this preseason in the best possible way. Everyone trains with great intensity and, honestly, this place already feels like home. I am very happy to be here.”
Bernardo also discussed the opportunity to work under José Mourinho, one of the most influential Portuguese coaches in football history.
“We have been rivals on several occasions, but now we are on the same side. I am very happy because he is a coach who means a great deal to Portuguese football. Since I was a child, we have followed his teams, and he has always represented Portugal at the highest level. I am delighted to begin working with him and to learn from him.”
The midfielder then explained what he hopes to bring to the squad.
“I am a team player and a hard worker. I am always ready to help the players around me become better. I believe I will bring a lot of work, positive energy and joy every day so that we can prepare properly and be in the best possible condition for every match. I always try to be available in different positions to help the team. I am a player who can adapt to several roles, and I will be ready for whatever Real Madrid needs from me.”
Bernardo revealed that the club’s history and stature made the decision to join almost impossible to refuse.
“Having played against Real Madrid many times, you understand the importance of this club. You realise how special it is to be here and how impressive it is to play at the Bernabéu, which is such an imposing stadium. When Real Madrid came calling, it was impossible to say no. I did not think twice. Being close to my family and Portugal, in a very similar culture, also helps. But the dream of playing for the greatest club in football history, as its titles prove, is a privilege, and I am very happy.”

Finally, Bernardo named some of the players who inspired him throughout his career.
“I have many football references, and Zidane is undoubtedly one of them. Rui Costa is another because of his connection with Benfica and Portugal. Modrić has also been a major inspiration and an example, both on and off the pitch. Zidane is perhaps among the five greatest players in football history. He played in a position similar to mine, and when I was young, I always watched the way he controlled the ball and played the game.”
🗣️ Bernardo Silva: "Estoy muy feliz por tratar de ayudar a este equipo a SEGUIR GANANDO, que es lo que este club sabe hacer GANAR, GANAR Y GANAR.
