Real Madrid Breaks Record with €189 Million Milestone

Real Madrid are experiencing a particularly eventful summer, but this time, everything appears to be moving in the right direction. So far, the Spanish giants have managed to strengthen José Mourinho’s squad while also generating unprecedented income through player sales.

After going two consecutive seasons without winning a major trophy, Real Madrid have decided to take centre stage in the 2026 summer transfer window. The club have been extremely active in both directions, investing heavily in new players while also completing several important departures.

While waiting for the potential arrivals of Rodri and Yan Diomandé to be finalised, Real Madrid have already spent approximately €95 million on new signings. That total could rise by close to another €200 million should the two major deals be completed, taking the club’s overall summer investment to just under €300 million.

Despite such significant spending, Real Madrid’s transfer balance remains positive for the moment. Even after completing their remaining priority signings, the financial situation should remain perfectly manageable for a club of Madrid’s size and economic strength.

The Spanish club ended the 2025–26 financial year with revenue exceeding €1.2 billion, reportedly the highest annual turnover ever recorded by a sports organisation. Real Madrid also posted a net profit of around €26 million, underlining the stability of the club’s financial model.

Following the official sales of Gonzalo García and Palacios, Real Madrid have now generated no less than €189 million from outgoing transfers this summer. That figure represents a new club record and makes the 2026 summer window the most profitable transfer period in Real Madrid’s history.

The total could increase even further before the market closes. Several academy players, including Thiago Pitarch, Jacobo Ortega and Cestero, could still leave the Santiago Bernabéu. Sergio Arribas may also be involved in another operation, with Real Madrid still owning 50 per cent of his economic rights.

The club are expected to continue using their increasingly common formula of selling young players while retaining 50 per cent of their rights. This strategy allows academy graduates to receive regular playing time elsewhere while giving Madrid the opportunity to benefit financially from their future development.

Nico Paz, sold for €60 million, is currently the club’s most expensive departure of the summer. He is followed by Gonzalo García, who joined Fulham for €40 million, and Víctor Muñoz, whose transfer generated €20.5 million.

Real Madrid’s previous sales record was established in 2019, when the club earned €136.8 million from departures. They had also generated €136.1 million during the previous summer. Other particularly profitable windows included 2017, with €132.5 million in sales, and 2013, when the total reached €113.5 million.

What makes the current record even more remarkable is that Real Madrid have exclusively sold players developed within the club’s academy system. The historic income therefore highlights not only Madrid’s financial power, but also the extraordinary value of La Fábrica, which continues to produce talented players capable of generating major sporting and economic returns.
