La Fábrica is the name of Real Madrid’s youth academy, the structure in charge of scouting and developing the club’s future talents. Based at the Ciudad Real Madrid training complex in Valdebebas, north-east of the Spanish capital, it houses every youth team from the youngest age groups up to Real Madrid Castilla, the reserve side.
Inside the Valdebebas training complex
The Valdebebas complex, opened in 2005, covers more than 100 hectares. Young players train on dedicated pitches and have access to a residence, classrooms and the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium, where Castilla play their matches. Sharing the site with the first team means the academy’s best prospects train within sight of the professional staff.
Development in Madrid rests on a dual project, sporting and academic. The club requires schooling for all its residents, with classes on site and dedicated educational supervision. On the pitch, the philosophy is the same at every age: technical mastery, ambitious football and a winning mentality.
From La Fábrica to the first team
The record of La Fábrica speaks for itself. Raúl González, Iker Casillas and Guti are among its most famous graduates, while Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernández and Lucas Vázquez carried that tradition forward by winning multiple Champions League titles in the white shirt. The academy has also produced internationals who thrived elsewhere, such as Achraf Hakimi and Álvaro Morata.
The classic path for a young Madridista runs through the junior categories, then Juvenil A, Castilla and, for a select few, the first team. Competition is fierce: every season only a handful of players make the final step, while many others build strong careers in LaLiga or across Europe’s top leagues.
