Real Madrid faced Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano today in the seventh round of La Liga, and almost nothing went according to plan for José Mourinho’s men. The Spanish giants produced a disappointing performance and were largely second best throughout the derby.
⭐️ Courtois – 6: The Belgian goalkeeper produced an outstanding save to prevent Atletico from scoring a third goal in the second half. There was very little he could have done about the goals conceded, and he was one of the few Real Madrid players who avoided a disastrous evening.

Dumfries – 1: A catastrophic performance and simply not good enough. He struggled badly defensively and was even worse technically. His control, passing and decision-making were poor throughout the game.
Huijsen – 2: He had been having a relatively decent game before making the mistake that changed everything. Another costly error from the Spanish defender hurt Real Madrid badly, with his red card leaving his teammates in an extremely difficult situation.
Konaté – 3: One of the few players who at least showed some determination defensively. However, his distribution was just as disappointing as the rest of the back line. Real Madrid struggled badly when trying to build from defence.
Cucurella – 2: Very disappointing. He regularly gave his opponent too much space and looked surprisingly naive in several duels. He has the physical qualities, but he failed to use them effectively in this match.
Tchouaméni – 2: Far from dominant. In fact, he was largely dominated in midfield and struggled to impose himself physically or technically.
Valverde – 3: The double pivot with Tchouaméni once again failed to provide Real Madrid with control. The pair offered very little creativity and committed too many technical mistakes whenever they attempted to accelerate the game.
Bellingham – 4: He worked hard without the ball, but his use of possession was disappointing. Apart from the challenge on him that could, depending on the interpretation, have resulted in a red card, he struggled to make a meaningful impact.
Arda Güler – 2: A very poor evening for the Turkish international. He showed willingness and tried to get involved, but he was overwhelmed for most of the match. Almost everything he attempted went wrong.
Vinicius – 4: Probably Real Madrid’s most dangerous player during the first half, but without any real end product. He tried to create something down the left before being sacrificed following Huijsen’s red card.
Mbappé – 2: Almost completely invisible. The French forward struggled from beginning to end and never managed to make the difference. He continued trying, but this was clearly not his night. Playing in a position that may not suit him perfectly did not help either, and it was certainly not the type of performance he needed in the Ballon d’Or conversation.
Mourinho – 2: The Portuguese coach appeared to have prepared the game poorly. Diego Simeone managed to take the match exactly where he wanted it, while Mourinho never found an effective response.
More than a decade after his previous spell in Madrid, his return to the Metropolitano ended with a painful setback. The scoreline may not fully reflect Atletico’s superiority, and the upcoming international break could feel very long for Real Madrid.
