Elche vs Real Madrid: Player Ratings as Diomandé Shines Again

Real Madrid faced Elche in La Liga Matchday 6 and experienced a much more difficult evening than expected. After producing a convincing first-half performance, José Mourinho’s men lost control after the break and allowed Elche back into the contest before eventually securing the victory late on. Here are our player ratings for the Madrid side.

Trent Alexander-Arnold	2/10	A very difficult performance. His set-pieces were disappointing, he offered almost nothing going forward and once again looked extremely vulnerable defensively.
Dean Huijsen	3/10	A poor evening for the Spanish defender. He made several sloppy passes from the back and lost far too many individual duels.
Ibrahima Konaté	6/10	More convincing than his defensive partner without being outstanding. He was also too passive on a couple of dangerous situations in the first half.
Marc Cucurella	5.5/10	Solid during the opening 45 minutes but much less convincing after the break. One of his poor clearances led directly to Elche’s equaliser.
Aurélien Tchouaméni	5.5/10	Excellent at winning the ball back in the first half, but his influence completely disappeared after the interval.
Federico Valverde	6/10	Worked tirelessly throughout the game and produced a magnificent pass in the build-up to Madrid’s second goal.
Arda Güler	6.5/10	Real Madrid’s best player in the first half. His free-kick led to the opening goal and he controlled the tempo, but like the rest of the team, he faded badly after half-time.
Vinicius Jr	1/10	A disastrous performance. He wasted opportunities, made poor decisions and was painfully ineffective in front of goal.
Kylian Mbappé	7/10	Finished the game with a goal and an assist. He was not particularly impressive in the second half, but his decisive contribution once again made the difference.
⭐ Yan Diomandé	8/10	Madrid’s best and most consistent player. The Ivorian registered his first assist and was arguably the only Madrid player to maintain a high level throughout the entire 90 minutes.

Diomandé shines, Vinicius struggles

Yan Diomandé was the standout performer for Real Madrid. The Ivorian remained dangerous throughout the match, constantly looking to take on defenders and create opportunities.

His performance was rewarded with his first assist for the club. More importantly, he showed consistency from the opening minute until the final whistle, something very few of his teammates managed to do.

Kylian Mbappé was also decisive. Even though the French forward was less influential during Madrid’s difficult second half, he still finished the match with a goal and an assist. His ability to make the difference in crucial moments once again proved invaluable.

At the opposite end of the spectrum was Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian endured an extremely frustrating night, struggling to make an impact and wasting several promising situations. His lack of efficiency in front of goal was particularly worrying.

Mourinho: 3/10

Real Madrid produced an encouraging first half, but once again failed to maintain the same intensity over the full 90 minutes.

José Mourinho’s side lost control after the break, allowing Elche to grow in confidence and work their way back into the game. The Portuguese coach was also slow to react from the bench despite his team clearly struggling.

Madrid ultimately had to rely on a late intervention from Carlos Espí to escape with the victory.

The recurring inability to produce a complete 90-minute performance is becoming a significant concern for Mourinho and his players. With bigger challenges ahead, Real Madrid will need to find greater consistency if they are to avoid being punished by stronger opposition.
