Vinicius’s message after his poor performance against Elche

Vinicius Junior once again failed to make the difference for Real Madrid. Against Elche, the Brazilian forward wasted several clear chances before being substituted in the 68th minute.

Five shots, only one on target and not a single successful dribble. Vinicius also lost possession far too often and once again struggled to make a real impact on the game. The worrying part for Real Madrid is that this no longer looks like a simple bad night. The Brazilian has been far from the devastating player supporters once knew, and his difficulties have now persisted for a long period.

“I can’t miss that many chances”

Vinicius himself appears fully aware that his performances must improve. Shortly after the match against Elche, the Real Madrid number 7 posted a message on social media acknowledging his lack of efficiency in front of goal.

“The goals will come back… I can’t miss that many chances. On Sunday, it will be better. Hala Madrid!” he wrote.

His message shows that the Brazilian understands the pressure surrounding him. He knows that expectations remain extremely high and that he must quickly rediscover the form that once made him one of Real Madrid’s most dangerous attacking players.

The problem for Vinicius is that the competition behind him is becoming increasingly serious.

Carlos Espi once again proved decisive against Elche. The young forward rescued Real Madrid by scoring the goal that secured a dramatic 3-2 victory in the closing stages of the match. His ability to make an immediate impact gives José Mourinho another valuable attacking option.

Yan Diomandé also produced an impressive performance. The winger was one of Real Madrid’s brightest players against Elche, notably completing seven successful dribbles. His confidence, direct style and ability to beat defenders created constant problems for the opposition.

Both players are therefore putting additional pressure on Vinicius at a time when the Brazilian is struggling to rediscover his best football.

Mourinho had already admitted that Vinicius was still some distance away from his top level after the Champions League match against Inter Milan.

“This is still not the real Vinicius, the one I saw at Benfica last season,” the Portuguese coach said.

Mourinho continues to trust the Brazilian and has repeatedly given him opportunities to regain confidence. However, competition for places is now very real. With Espi delivering important goals and Diomandé impressing with his performances, Vinicius can no longer take his position for granted.

The Brazilian knows that words alone will not be enough. His response now needs to come on the pitch.

Fortunately for Vinicius, he will not have to wait long for another opportunity. Real Madrid’s next match is a huge one: the Madrid derby against Atletico on Sunday.

A strong performance in such an important fixture would be the perfect way for Vinicius to answer his critics, restore some confidence and prove that his social-media message was more than just a promise. The pressure is increasing, and all eyes will once again be on Real Madrid’s number 7.
