Ibrahima Konaté has returned from his summer break in significantly better physical condition than he was during the final months of his time at Liverpool.
At 27 years old, Ibrahima Konaté has arrived at Real Madrid determined to make an immediate impression. The French centre-back has already caught the attention of the coaching staff thanks to the excellent physical condition in which he reported for pre-season training.

During his holidays, Konaté worked hard to improve his fitness and reportedly lost several kilograms before joining his new teammates in Madrid. Real Madrid had provided the defender with a specific individual training and nutrition programme to follow during his break, and the former Liverpool player reportedly respected the instructions very carefully.
According to several reports in the Spanish media, Konaté has lost between three and four kilograms compared with his highest weight during his final period at Liverpool. The difference is already clearly noticeable. The French international looks leaner, lighter and more athletic than he did towards the end of his spell at Anfield.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed by José Mourinho. The Real Madrid coach has already had the opportunity to observe his new defender during training sessions, and the early impressions appear to be very positive.
Konaté’s physical transformation also fits perfectly with Mourinho’s expectations. The Portuguese coach wants to build a team capable of playing with intensity, aggression and discipline throughout the season. For a central defender, being physically sharp will therefore be extremely important, particularly when defending large spaces or dealing with quick opposition attackers.
The next challenge for Konaté will be to translate his impressive physical condition into strong performances on the pitch.
Opportunities could arrive quickly for the French defender. With Éder Militão currently sidelined through injury and Antonio Rüdiger’s playing time expected to be carefully managed during the season, Konaté could receive significant minutes in the opening weeks of the campaign.
A partnership with Dean Huijsen is already one of the defensive combinations Mourinho could consider. The two defenders have different but potentially complementary qualities, and the coaching staff will have several opportunities during the early part of the season to assess the best possible partnership at the heart of the defence.
Competition for places at Real Madrid will naturally remain intense, and physical preparation alone will not guarantee Konaté a regular starting position. However, arriving in excellent condition is an important first step.

For the moment, everything surrounding Konaté’s arrival in Madrid appears encouraging. The Frenchman used his summer break productively, followed the programme prepared for him by the club and returned several kilograms lighter.
Now looking sharper and more prepared for Mourinho’s demanding style of football, Konaté seems ready to begin this new chapter of his career. His next objective will be simple: prove on the pitch that his transformation can help him establish himself as an important figure in Real Madrid’s defence this season.
