Real Madrid are heading into a very busy month of September. Over the space of just 20 days, Los Blancos will play five matches, including four La Liga fixtures and one Champions League encounter.
After enjoying a perfect August in the Spanish league, with three wins from three matches against Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Málaga, José Mourinho’s men will now have to maintain their momentum during a particularly demanding run of fixtures.
The first challenge comes as early as Friday, September 4, when Real Madrid travel to Seville to face Real Betis at La Cartuja. Kick-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. and Mourinho will be hoping his players can continue their excellent start to the domestic campaign.
Only four days later, attention will turn to Europe. Real Madrid will begin their 2026/27 Champions League campaign on Tuesday, September 8, with a major clash against Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It will be one of the most anticipated matches of the month and an early opportunity for Madrid to make a statement in the competition.
A Madrid derby before the international break
There will be little time to recover after the Champions League opener, as Real Madrid will immediately return to La Liga action.
On Saturday, September 12, Mourinho’s side will welcome Rayo Vallecano to the Bernabéu. Three days later, on Tuesday, September 15, Los Blancos will be back on the road to face Elche, with kick-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
This intense schedule means Real Madrid will play four matches in the space of only 12 days between September 4 and September 15. Squad management could therefore become particularly important for Mourinho, especially with several players also expected to represent their national teams shortly afterwards.
The final fixture before the international break will undoubtedly be the biggest domestic test of the month.
On Sunday, September 20, Real Madrid will travel to the Metropolitano to face Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby. The highly anticipated encounter will kick off at 4:15 p.m.
Matches between Atlético and Real Madrid are always among the most intense fixtures of the Spanish football calendar, and this meeting could already have an impact on the early La Liga title race.
Following the derby, Real Madrid’s international players will leave the club to join their respective national teams.
Mourinho and his squad will then have a significant break before returning to competitive action during the weekend of October 10 and 11, when they are scheduled to host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
