Real Madrid has made a decision regarding Courtois.

Thibaut Courtois is not going anywhere anytime soon. According to journalist José Félix Díaz, the Belgian goalkeeper is very close to reaching an agreement with Real Madrid to extend his contract until June 2028.

Real Madrid have decided not to wait when it comes to securing the future of one of their most important players. In recent seasons, the club had usually preferred to wait until the final months of the campaign before making decisions regarding some of its most experienced players. However, Courtois is a special case, and the Spanish giants are reportedly ready to make an exception.

Real Madrid has made a decision regarding Courtois.

The Belgian remains an absolutely key figure at the Santiago Bernabéu. At 34, Courtois continues to perform at the highest level and is still regarded by Real Madrid as one of the very best goalkeepers in world football.

His recent performances have only strengthened that belief. Against Inter Milan in the Champions League, Courtois once again delivered a decisive display, making seven saves and playing a major role in Real Madrid’s victory.

“He is still young for a goalkeeper,” José Mourinho said after the match, underlining the club’s confidence in their number one.

Real Madrid currently see no goalkeeper on the transfer market capable of offering the same combination of experience, consistency, leadership and world-class shot-stopping ability. For that reason, the club’s priority is to secure Courtois for another season while continuing to calmly prepare for the future.

Behind him, Real Madrid believe they already have several promising options.

Javi Navarro is highly rated at Valdebebas. The Spain U19 international impressed during the latest UEFA Youth League campaign and is considered one of the most promising young Spanish goalkeepers of his generation.

Fran González is also continuing his development away from Madrid with Sevilla FC. The club are closely following his progress and still believe he could eventually have a role to play in the first team.

Andriy Lunin, meanwhile, also retains the confidence of the club. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has fully accepted his role as Courtois’ understudy and remains a reliable option whenever the Belgian is unavailable. His professionalism and willingness to compete have been appreciated internally.

Courtois himself has no intention of leaving the Spanish capital either.

According to José Félix Díaz, the Belgian has already turned down several approaches from other clubs. Despite interest from elsewhere, his priority has always been to continue representing Real Madrid.

Courtois feels comfortable in Madrid, remains highly ambitious and believes he can still compete for the biggest trophies with Los Blancos.

An agreement now appears to be very close.

The expected extension would keep Courtois at Real Madrid until June 2028, adding another year to his current deal and confirming his status as the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper.

For Real Madrid, the message is clear: despite his age, Courtois remains indispensable. His performances, experience and influence continue to make him one of the pillars of Mourinho’s team, and the club are determined to keep him at the Bernabéu for at least another season.
