Kylian Mbappé has already hit the ground running this season. In his first appearance at the Santiago Bernabéu of the campaign, the French superstar produced a spectacular hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1.
With four goals after only two La Liga matches, Mbappé has already moved to the top of the Spanish league’s scoring charts. The Real Madrid striker clearly has not lost any of his efficiency in front of goal. Against Real Sociedad, he needed just 40 minutes to complete another hat-trick, his sixth since joining Real Madrid and the 25th of his professional career.
Since arriving in the Spanish capital, the French international has now scored 89 goals for Real Madrid, an impressive total that underlines his extraordinary impact in the white shirt.
His performance also left José Mourinho amazed. The Portuguese coach, who is working with Mbappé for the first time this season, could hardly hide his admiration after the final whistle.
“This guy is incredible. What he did tonight was madness,” Mourinho said after watching his striker dominate Real Sociedad’s defence.
Interestingly, Mourinho decided to keep Mbappé on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes. That meant the Frenchman did not receive the traditional individual standing ovation that often comes when a star player is substituted late in a dominant victory.
The Real Madrid coach later explained his decision.
“I kept him on because I was hoping he might score four goals,” Mourinho admitted.
Mbappé ultimately had to settle for three, but his message at the beginning of the season remains clear: individual statistics are important, but trophies are what really matter.
The French forward had already insisted that his main objective was to help Real Madrid win major silverware rather than simply chase personal records.
“I prefer scoring 40 goals and winning trophies rather than scoring 60 without winning anything. I would rather score 40 while working a lot for the team than score 60 while only thinking about myself,” Mbappé explained.
For now, everything appears to be going according to plan.

The goals are flowing, Real Madrid are winning, and Mbappé is already establishing himself as an indispensable figure in Mourinho’s new-look team. With his speed, finishing ability and growing influence in the attacking system, the Frenchman looks ready to play a decisive role as Madrid target every available trophy this season.
His explosive start could also prove significant on an individual level. Performances like this will inevitably strengthen Mbappé’s position in the race for the Ballon d’Or, which is scheduled to be awarded on October 26 in London.
If he continues producing numbers at this rate while helping Real Madrid collect trophies, Mbappé could become increasingly difficult to overlook.
Four goals in two league matches, a hat-trick in his first Bernabéu appearance of the season and another emphatic victory for Real Madrid: Mbappé could hardly have asked for a better start.
