El Real Madrid sigue buscando al sustituto de Courtois.

Real Madrid have already started planning for life after Thibaut Courtois. Although the Belgian goalkeeper is expected to extend his contract with the Spanish giants, the club are already studying several options to identify the man who could eventually replace him between the posts.

Thibaut Courtois is entering the final months of his current contract, which is due to expire next June. At 34 years old, the Belgian international remains one of the most important players in Real Madrid’s squad and continues to perform at an extremely high level.

For that reason, the Madrid hierarchy are currently considering offering him at least a one-year contract extension. Courtois remains a key figure in the dressing room and his performances continue to justify his status as the club’s undisputed number one goalkeeper.

However, Real Madrid do not want to wait until the last minute before preparing for the future. The club are well aware that replacing a goalkeeper of Courtois’ quality will be an extremely difficult task. Since arriving in Madrid, the Belgian has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football and has delivered decisive performances in some of the biggest matches of his career.

Finding a young goalkeeper capable of eventually reaching that level is therefore one of the challenges facing Real Madrid’s recruitment department.

According to Cadena Cope, one of the names recently being monitored by the Spanish club was Lucca Brughmans, an 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper regarded as one of the most promising talents of his generation.

Brughmans had attracted particular interest in Madrid because of both his potential and his background. Like Courtois, the young goalkeeper developed at Genk, a club renowned for producing talented Belgian players. His physical profile, technique and long-term potential reportedly convinced several members of Real Madrid’s sporting department.

However, the Spanish giants have now missed out on the promising goalkeeper.

Liverpool moved faster in negotiations and completed a deal worth around €35 million to secure Brughmans’ services. The Premier League club have made a significant investment in the youngster, underlining how highly he is rated across Europe.

Despite completing the transfer, Liverpool have decided not to immediately bring Brughmans into their first-team squad. Instead, the goalkeeper will remain with his current club on loan for the season, allowing him to continue his development while gaining regular playing experience.

For Real Madrid, Liverpool’s move represents the loss of one of the most interesting options on what is already believed to be a relatively short list of potential successors to Courtois.

Nevertheless, there is no immediate urgency at the Santiago Bernabéu. Courtois is still performing at the highest level and a contract extension would give the club additional time to carefully evaluate the goalkeeper market.

What is clear, however, is that Real Madrid are already thinking ahead. Replacing Thibaut Courtois will not be easy, and after missing out on Lucca Brughmans, the search for the Belgian superstar’s eventual successor will continue.
